Description
Have you ever participated in an escape room? During this class, we will work towards building our own escape rooms in Minecraft using some unique redstone concepts. We will teach you some basic redstone logic gates, different puzzles you can create in Minecraft, and some redstone and building tricks so you can make an exciting and well-built escape room. At the end of the class, we will explore other students' escape room. (For this class, students will need to purchase the Java Edition of Minecraft on their own computers).
Beginners are welcome, but some redstone experience may help students better understand and participate in the class.
In addition to providing a fun experience and a product that the students can keep forever, this class will teach students how to:
Introduce electrical engineering and architectural concepts through Minecraft
Hone their creativity through custom puzzle building
Develop problem-solving skills and computational thinking through redstone circuitry
Design buildings and set pieces inside the escape rooms
Give instructions to others and accept feedback from teachers and peers alike
Use technology to accomplish goals
Class PolicIES
Students will receive information for our own private Minecraft server. Only students from the class will be able to access it to ensure safety. Nonetheless, please do not share the server information with others. Students should have their own Minecraft Java Edition account and will need to provide the teachers with their username prior to the class start so we can give them permission to access it. Other Minecraft versions like console editions and pocket editions for mobile devices will not work for this course.
PDL Behavior Policy
Please verify that your student understands our policy. We want our students to treat us and each other with respect, and we want to make sure everyone has an enjoyable class time.
When in a Playful Digital Learning class, please respect your instructor and other students.
Follow the teacher’s instructions
Do not destroy buildings or writing of other students
Be polite and kind when suggesting or criticizing ideas
Allow other students to speak
If the class is frequently interrupted or the student is misbehaving:
First time: Verbal or written warning
Second time: Put the student in a breakout room to speak with an instructor one on one
Third time: Kicked or temporarily banned from the Minecraft server or document until the teacher deems the behavior is corrected
Any warnings will be communicated to the student’s parent/guardian. Please note that the Minecraft server may also be temporarily turned off while students are doing other tasks (such as writing, programming, or discussing).
